Error message after you complete the Construction Update in Autoroute, in MapPoint, or in Streets and Trips: "Highway construction is out of date"

After you complete the Construction Update in Microsoft Autoroute, in Microsoft MapPoint, or in Microsoft Streets & Trips, you may still receive the following error message:

You may be able to work around this issue by manually. To do this, download and then install the Construction Update for the latest version of the program that you are using. If you downloaded the data file but still receive an error message, ignore the error message. Continue to use the program.

It is most important that you download and save the following Construction Update file in the correct location.

The Construction Updates are posted when we have the construction data. The date of the updates is listed both on the Search Results page and on the Download details page as the date of publication. If no updates are available for the latest version of the programs that you are using, check the site in several months. The construction updates are available only for new products. As earlier versions of products are discontinued, the download is no longer available. To see whether the support for the program that you are using has been discontinued, visit the following Microsoft support life-cycle page:

Manually download and install the Construction Update

1. Close all the programs that are running on the computer.
2. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
   http://www.microsoft.com/downloads (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads)
3. In the Search box, type Construction, and then click Go.
4. Click the link that corresponds to the version of the product that you are using.
   
   Note Each download only works with the correct version of the product. Do not try to use a download that does not match the version of the product that you are using.
5. Click Download, and then click Save.
6. Click My Computer, expand the drive where you have the program installed, and then double-click Program Files.
   
   For MapPoint, click Download, and then save the file to the following location:
   C:\Program Files\Microsoft MapPoint\Data
   For Streets & Trips, click Download, and then save the file to the following location:
   C:\Program Files\Microsoft Streets & Trips\Data
7. Start the program.

If you receive the same error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, ignore it.

You may be able to work around this issue by manually downloading and installing the Construction Update.

Note There may not be a Construction Update for the product that you are using. If there is no Construction Update for the product that you are using, check for an update later.

To work around this issue, manually download and install the Construction Update. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Close Autoroute, MapPoint, or Streets & Trips.
2. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
   http://www.microsoft.com/downloads (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads)
3. In the Product/Technology box, click All.
4. In the Keywords box, type Construction, and then click Go.
5. Click the link that corresponds to your version Autoroute, MapPoint, or Streets & Trips.
   
   Note Each download only works with the correct version of the product. Do not try to use a download that does not match the product that you are using.
6. For MapPoint
   
   Click Download, and then save the file to the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft MapPoint\Data" folder.
   
   For Streets & Trips
   
   Click Download, and then save the file to the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Streets & Trips\Data" folder.

Note The Construction Updates are posted approximately one time each month. The date of the updates is listed both on the Search Results page and on the Download details page as the date of publication.

Check the registry settings

Review and then update your registry settings. If you still cannot download the update, set Microsoft Internet Explorer as the default browser.

Set Internet Explorer as the default browser

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
2. On the Programs tab, click to select the Internet Explorer should check whether it is the default browser check box or click to select the Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser check box, and then click OK.
3. Start Internet Explorer.
4. Click Yes if you are prompted with the following message:
   Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Would you like to make it your default browser?
5. Close Internet Explorer.
6. Start the program and then try to download the Construction Update again.

Temporarily disable the firewall or perform a clean boot procedure

If you have a firewall program, temporarily disable the firewall (Norton or Mcafee), and then try to upload the Construction Updates in the program. For more information about how to temporarily disable a firewall, see the documentation that was included with the computer. If you are not sure how to do this, perform a clean boot on the computer.
