Problems When the Data Frame Ends with CRLF.CRLF QUIT CRLF

SYMPTOMS

You may experience a problem when Exchange 2000 receives a message over the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) and the message ends the data frame with:
CRLF.CRLF QUIT CRLF
Exchange server responds to the pipelined QUIT command with “500 5.3.3 Unrecognized Command.” Exchange server responds with a 250 in response to the CRLF.CRLF, and then responds with “500 5.3.3 Unrecognized Command” in response to the QUIT command. The same behavior occurs with other pipelined commands such as RSET.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
