This article describes considerations that apply when you install Microsoft Exchange 2000 Chat Service. Exchange 2000 Chat Service is supported for installation on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computers.

You can install Exchange 2000 Chat Service on an Exchange 2000 Server-based or a Windows 2000 Server-based computer that is configured either as a member server of a domain or as a domain controller. Exchange 2000 Chat Service does not depend on other Exchange 2000 Server services, but Active Directory and Exchange 2000 Server must be deployed in the domain to support Exchange 2000 Chat Service. In a mixed-mode site, you must install Exchange 2000 Server before you can install Exchange 2000 Chat Service .

Exchange 2000 Chat Service is not supported for installation on non-Windows 2000 Server-based computers. For example, you cannot install Exchange 2000 Chat Service on a Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional-based computer.
