DNS Service Ends Unexpectedly and Event 7031 Error Message Appears

SYMPTOMS

When you start and log on to your Windows 2000 Server-based computer, you may receive the following error message:

Event 7031: The DNS Server service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this x time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No Action.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if a parenthesis appears in a hostname that is contained in the DNS zone file.

When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
