When you try to use Microsoft Windows Explorer to open a Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 .pst (personal store) file that contains archived information about a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
When you click OK, you may receive a second error message that is similar to the following, where Filepath is the path to the archive file:
An error occurred in the folder shortcuts file (.fav). Outlook will re-create the default folder shortcuts.
When you click OK, the file shrinks markedly, and the archived information is lost.
Outlook could not save the updated folder shortcuts information. Check to make sure there is sufficient disk space and that the file File path.pst is not marked read-only. Another attempt to save will be made after next change or when you exit.
This problem may occur if you open a .pst file in this manner and the file is edited, which may make the file unusable by Outlook 2003.
To work around this problem, open the file from Outlook 2003. To do so, follow these steps:
