Article ID: 813654 - Last Review: April 7, 2006 - Revision: 2.1 FIX: Cannot connect to a Web folder if the proxy server requires authenticationOn This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you access a Web Folder on a computer configured with
either Microsoft Office XP or the client components for Microsoft SharePoint
Portal Server 2001, you may receive one of the following error messages if the folder
is behind a firewall or proxy server, and proxy authentication is required:
Cannot connect to the Web server [Folder URL]. The server
could not be located, or may be too busy to respond. Please check your typing
or check to make sure the Web server is available. Documents in the folder are not available. The folder may
have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection
to the server. CAUSEThe Distributed Authoring and Versioning (DAV) protocol
provider for the Microsoft Data Access Internet Publishing Provider (MSDAIPP)
does not perform authentication when it receives a 407 Proxy Authentication
response from a proxy server. MSDAIPP is used by Office XP and the shell
namespace extension installed by the SharePoint client, and the problem can affect
your ability to connect to certain Web servers. RESOLUTIONHotfix informationThis problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you have installed SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 3 or a later service pack, you do not have to apply the hotfix.Service pack informationThis problem was first corrected in SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 3.To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001.
