SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Commerce Server Site Packager on a site that is located in the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) root, the operation is unsuccessful, and the following error is recorded in the Pup.log file:
[16:15:06] Error finding IIS object for retail2002:Automation error
Note The name of the site in this example is Retail2002.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Unpackage the Retail2002 site.
  2. Open the Commerce Server Manager Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
  3. Expand Internet Information Server, and then expand the server.
  4. Right-click Default Web Site, and then click Properties.
  5. Click the Home Directory tab, and then modify the local path to point directly to the directory that contains the Retail2002 application.
  6. Expand Commerce Server Manager, and then expand Commerce Sites.
  7. Expand Retail2002, and then expand Applications.
  8. Right-click SERVER/Retail2002, and then click Properties.
  9. On the General tab, clear the IIS application path box.
  10. Click the Web Servers tab, and then click Synchronize Web Server Properties.
  11. Restart IIS with the IISRESET command.
  12. Update the values in Csapp.ini to reflect the new location.
  13. Run Site Packager on the application.
