SYMPTOMS

When you delete the text in a header of a Microsoft Word 2002 document, the paragraph mark in the header may not be deleted.

After you apply this fix, Word will behave as follows when you delete the text in the header section of a document:

When the header is the first header section, a paragraph mark will not be left in the header of the document.
When the header is not the first header section and Same as Previous is selected, a paragraph mark will not be left in the header of the document.
When the header is not the first header section and Same as Previous is not selected, a paragraph mark will be left in the header of the document.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.
