SYMPTOMS

When applying the fixes from either Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-061 or Application Center Hotfix QFE813058.exe to machines that have Microsoft Application Center 2000 you may get a dialog box that says:

Error running SQL script

-or-
Unable to run SQL script

CAUSE

The Application Hotfix QFE813058.exe did not properly install Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Edition (MSDE) SP2.

This usually happens when MSSQL$MSAC and SQLAGENT$MSAC services were not started before Hotfix QFE813058.exe was applied.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, please start the MSSQL$MSAC and the SQLAGENT$MSAC services and then reapply Application Center Hotfix QFE813058.exe and then install the fixes provided in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-061.

To restart the MSSQL$MSAC and the SQLAGENT$MSAC services, follow the steps below:
  1. From a command prompt, enter the following commands, pressing ENTER between each command. Be sure to let the first command finish processing before you enter the second one.
net start mssql$msac
net start sqlagent$msac

This will restart the services.
