BUG #: 103075 (SQLBUG_70) SYMPTOMSUnder some rare conditions, SQL Server may report the
following error message in the error log when it processes a query that
includes a large, long running sort operation: 2003-02-10 17:02:54.39 ods The Scheduler 2 appears to be hung. PSS
0x5F8B3110, EC 0x5F8B32C0, UMS Context 0x050D07D8 This error message may be repeated in the error log as frequently as one time per minute, while the query is running. In some cases, the error message may also be accompanied by other symptoms. For example, SQL Server might be slow to respond to other requests. After the query completes, the server will generally return to normal operation. A sort operation that triggers this issue may occur as a result of various Transact-SQL commands including an ORDER BY clause, a MERGE JOIN operation, or the creation of an index. RESOLUTION A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.
