"Errors occurred while Windows was synchronizing your data" error message appears when you try to synchronize offline files

After you have worked with Offline Files and have added lots of data or after you have set up a Folder Redirection (for example, a redirected My Documents folder), you may receive the following error message during the subsequent synchronization process:The following error message may appear on the Results tab: The following text may appear on the Progress tab: The Offline File Status window displays the following message:

This problem may occur if any of the following conditions are true:

• The server is out of disk space for synchronizing offline files. policy setting, the default is used.
• Server message block (SMB) communication has stopped because of server resource problems.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Windows 2000

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.

If you have installed the hotfixes that are mentioned in the "Resolution" section yet the issue is not resolved, capture the network traffic between the failing client and the file server that holds the share for offline folders.

Network traces may show that the client stops SMB traffic ungracefully by sending a TCP FIN or a "server not responding to SMB requests in time" message.

If you suspect a server resource problem, restart the server, and then use Performance Monitor to find the root cause of the server resource problem. Typically, such resource problems are caused by kernel mode file system filter drivers that are installed by antivirus software or backup agents.
