Article ID: 816003 - Last Review: February 1, 2007 - Revision: 2.2 Description of the Microsoft Office 2000 Profile WizardOn This PageSUMMARYThe Microsoft Office 2000 Profile Wizard permits you to save
or restore Office 2000 program settings. You can save all the current Office
2000 settings in an Office profile settings (OPS) file, or you can restore
settings that were previously saved in an OPS file. If you save your Office settings to an OPS file, your settings are not written to the file until you click Finish. Similarly, if you restore your settings from an OPS file, the computer does not update until you click Finish. MORE INFORMATIONThe Profile Wizard can be used to perform two functions:
Download and Install the Profile WizardThe Profile Wizard is contained in the Office 2000 Resource Kit core tool set (Orktools.exe). To download the Orktools.exe file, follow these steps:
Save the Settings from Your ComputerThe Profile Wizard retrieves user options from all Office 2000 programs that are installed, and then saves them to an OPS file. To save your settings, follow these steps:
Important The Profile Wizard does not create or write to the OPS file until you click Finish. Restore Your Previously Saved SettingsThe Profile Wizard reads the program settings that are found in the specified OPS file, and then restores those settings to the computer. To restore your settings, follow these steps:
Important The Profile Wizard does not restore program settings until you click Finish. Reset to Default Settings Before Restoring Your SettingsThe Profile Wizard restores the default program settings before restoring the settings that are saved in the OPS file. This check box is only selected if you click to select Restore previously saved settings. For example, if you set the Word option Allow fast saves, but do not change the option Always create backup copy. You then save settings to an OPS file with the Profile Wizard. If you select Reset to defaults before restoring settings when you use the Profile Wizard to restore the settings, the Profile Wizard first resets all options including Always create backup copy to their default values. The Profile Wizard then restores the Allow fast saves setting. This means that even if you change the Always create backup copy option, the Profile Wizard resets this option to its default value when the OPS file is restored. Note If you select this check box but do not specify an OPS file to restore, then the Profile Wizard resets the program settings to their default values. To Remove the Profile WizardThe Profile Wizard is contained in the Office 2000 Resource Kit core tool set (Orktools.exe). To remove the Profile Wizard, follow these steps:
