KANA Key Functions As CTRL Key When You Log On to Windows Terminal Services Client

When the KANA key on a Japanese keyboard is set to the locked-on position, and you then log on to Windows Terminal Services Client, all keystrokes may be treated as though the CRTL key is also pressed at the same time.
The KANA key is recognized as the CTRL key in this situation. This behavior occurs when Windows Terminal Services Client has been configured to permit logon without the use of a password. When you start Windows Terminal Services Client in this situation, the KANA key is identified as the CTRL key before any dialog boxes are available. If you wait until the first dialog box is displayed before you start typing, the KANA key functions as expected.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
