Internet Explorer hangs when accessing files

SYMPTOMS

When you close Internet Explorer, it may remain in memory as a process. If you then start Internet Explorer, and then try to access files that you accessed earlier by using Internet Explorer, the new instance of Internet Explorer stops responding (hangs).

To apply this hotfix, you must have Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed on the computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
