SYMPTOMS

When you use the Xbox Advanced AV Pack with your Xbox console, you may experience one or more of the following behaviors:
  • There is no video display.
  • There is distorted or partial video display.
  • A projection TV does not display the video correctly.
  • The video display only appears in black and white.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Determine whether the indicator light on the front of the console remains green or whether it blinks.
    • If the indicator light repeatedly blinks green and orange, the AV connection is not functioning correctly. If this is the case, follow steps two through four. If these steps do not resolve the issue, continue to step eight. .
    • If the indicator light remains green, continue to step two.
  2. Verify that you are using a Microsoft-licensed or Microsoft compatible Advanced AV Pack. If this is not the case, contact the manufacturer of the peripheral for more information.
  3. If you connect your Xbox console directly to a TV, make sure that you are connected the console correctly.
    • Turn off power to your TV and to your Xbox console.
    • Connect the (S-video or yellow RCA) cable connector to the (S-video or yellow RCA) output of the AV pack and to the (S-video or yellow RCA) input of your television. Make sure the connections are firmly connected.
    • If your TV uses SCART, connect the SCART adaptor to the TV and connect the YELLOW RCA output of the AV pack to the yellow RCA input of your television.
  4. If you connect your Xbox console to a TV through a VCR, make sure that you connected the console correctly.
    • Turn off power to your TV and to your Xbox console.
    • Connect the (S-video or yellow RCA) cable connector to the (S-video or yellow RCA) output of the AV pack and to the (S-video or yellow RCA) input of your VCR. Make sure the connections are firmly connected.
    • Verify that you are using the same type of cable (S-video or yellow RCA) for the VCR connection and for the TV connection. If this is not case, the video performance may not be as expected.
    • If you connect your Xbox console to a TV through a VCR, DVD movies may not play because of copy protection technology. However, this does not affect gameplay.
  5. Verify the input selection. Make sure you tuned the TV and the VCR to the correct input channels. Typically, you can find the Input Select by using one of the following methods:
    • Look for a hidden panel on the front of the TV or VCR.
    • Look for a button on the original remote control.
    • Press the channel up button and the channel down button to scan the high and the low channels.
    • Use the on-screen menu option.
For more information about Input Select names, see the “Common names for Input Select " section.
  6. Try different connection configurations.
    • If you connect directly to a TV, try a different TV.
    • If you connect your Xbox console to a TV through a VCR, try connecting your Xbox console directly to a TV.
  7. Determine whether the behavior occurs with one disc, with two discs, or with more than two discs.
    • If the problem occurs with only one or two discs, search support.microsoft.com for known issues for that particular disc.
    • If no known issues exist, return the disc to the retailer.
  8. The AV pack may be malfunctioning. .
  9. If a replacement AV pack does not resolve the issue, you may require Microsoft to service the console.
