SYMPTOMS

When you use the Xbox RF Adapter with your Xbox console, you may experience one or more of the following behaviors:
  • There is no video display.
  • There is distorted or partial video display.
  • A projection TV does not display the video correctly.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Determine whether the indicator light on the front of the console remains green or whether it blinks.
    • If the indicator light repeatedly blinks green and orange, the AV connection is not functioning correctly. If this is the case, follow steps 2 through 4. If these steps do not resolve the issue, continue to step 8.
    • If the indicator light remains green, continue to step 2.
  2. Verify that you are using a Microsoft-licensed or Microsoft-compatible RF adapter. If this is not the case, contact the manufacturer of the peripheral for more information.
  3. Verify that you tune the TV to the same channel as you selected on the Xbox RF Adapter. Make sure that you tune the TV to channel 3 or channel 4 as directed.
  4. Verify that you connected the console correctly.
    1. Turn off power to your TV, to your VCR, and to your Xbox console.
    2. Connect the RF adapter to the AV port on the back of the Xbox console.
    3. Connect the RF adapter coaxial cable (TV out) connector to the TV or to the VCR antenna input. Make sure that the connections are firmly connected.
    4. Connect the appropriate coaxial cable to the antenna in (ANT in) connector. Make sure that the connections are firmly connected.
    5. Set the RF adapter and the TV or the VCR to the same channel. Use either channel three or channel four. You may improve video performance if you select a channel that has no other active signal.
    6. If you connect your Xbox console to a TV through a VCR, DVD movies may not play because of copy protection technology. However, this does not affect gameplay.
  5. Try different connection configurations.
    • If you connect directly to a TV, try a different TV.
    • If you connect your Xbox console to a TV through a VCR, try connecting your Xbox console directly to a TV.
  6. Determine whether the behavior occurs with one disc, with two discs, or with more than two discs.
    • If the problem occurs with only one or two discs, search the Knowledge Base for known issues for that particular disc.
    • If no known issues exist, return the disc to the retailer.
  7. The RF Adapter may be malfunctioning.
