You cannot open a closed folder in My Notebooks folder in OneNote 2003

When you create a new folder in your My Notebook folder, that is located in your My Documents folder, either by creating it in Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 or through the Microsoft Windows Explorer, you may not be able to open the new folder in OneNote.

This problem may occur if you close the new folder in OneNote and there are no OneNote section (.one) files in that folder.

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1.

To work around this problem, do one of the following:

• Create a new section in the new folder before you close the folder.
• If the new folder has already been closed, then you can save a new section to that folder.

Method 1: Create a New Section

1. Click the new folder tab.
2. On the Insert menu, click New Section.
3. Type a name for the new section.
   
   You can now close this folder and reopen it by opening the section you have created inside it.

Method 2: Save a Section

1. On the Insert menu, click New Section.
2. Type a name for the new section.
3. On the File menu, click Save as, and then save the new section to the closed folder.
   
   This will automatically open your folder in OneNote.
4. Return the My Notebooks folder.
5. Right-click the tab for the new section that you created.
6. Click Delete.
   
   This will only delete the original section that you created in the My Notebooks folder and not the one that you saved in your folder. Alternatively you can keep this section and use it for more notes.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
This problem was first corrected in OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1.
