Publisher 2003: You Cannot See the Support Folder

When you try to view your Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 Web pages that were published to a WebFolder enabled site, the IndexPageName_files supporting files folder may not be visible either in Microsoft Windows Explorer or Publisher 2003. However, you can republish an existing set of Publisher 2003 Web pages to your Web site, and view the pages through your Web browser.

This problem occurs if you publish you Web pages to a WebFolder and you have configured the Web options to create a supporting files folder.

To work around this problem, note that the supporting folders are visible if your create an FTP connection to your Web site or access the folders through your Internet service provider's (ISP) online file-management system. To view the supporting folders, use one of the following methods.

Create an FTP Connection

You can create an FTP connection to your Web site by using the Add Network Place Wizard.

Note Not all ISPs provide FTP access to the files that are stored on their servers. Before you continue with the following steps make sure you have all the information you must have to set up an FTP connection. For more information about how to connect to your Web site through an FTP connection, you may have to contact your ISP or check your ISP help pages or documentation.

1. Click Start, and then click My Network Places.
2. Click Add a network place.
3. Click Next, click Choose another network location, and then click Next.
4. In the Internet or network address box, type the FTP address to connect to your Web site, and then click Next.
5. Click to clear the Log on anonymously check box.
6. In the User name box, type your user name, and then click Next. Your user name is assigned to you by your ISP.
7. Type a name for this connection, and then click Next.
8. Click to select the Open this network place when I click Finish check box, and then click Finish.
9. Type your password, and then click Log on. You can now copy and upload files to the folders you could not see by using a WebFolder connection.

Use Your ISP File Management Tools

If you want to use the tools that are provided by your ISP to access and modify files on your Web site, view the file management and modification online documentation that is provided by your ISP.

Turn Off the "Organize supporting files in a folder" Option

You can turn off the option to use a supporting folder when you publish a Publisher-created Web site to an ISP. To do this, follow these steps:

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2. Click the Web tab.
3. Under Saving, click to clear the Organize supporting file in a folder check box, and then click OK.
4. Publish the Web site to your ISP. To do this, click Publish to the Web on the File menu.
