SYMPTOMS

When you try to start a computer by using both the /PAE and the /3GB switches in the Boot.ini file, the computer may not start. The screen may remain black, or if Windows 2000 is attached to a debugger program, you may receive the following error message:
STOP 0x000000A (00000000, 0000001c, 00000001, dd42c21b)

CAUSE

This behavior only occurs if you installed a hotfix that contains the PAE kernel files (Ntkrnlpa.exe and Ntkrpamp.exe) that have dates between January 24, 2003, and March 28, 2003. This behavior does not occur with versions of the PAE kernel files earlier than January 24, 2003.
