After Formatting a Logical Disk, Event Id: 26 or Event Id: 7 Is Recorded in the System Log

SYMPTOMS

When you format a logical disk on an extended partition on an ATAPI hard disk drive on a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer, either of the following events may be recorded in the system log:

Event Id: 7
Type: Error
Description: The device, \device\harddiskX\partitionX, has a bad block.
Source: Disk

-or-

Event Id: 26
Type: Warning
Description: The driver has detected that device \device\scsiportX has old or out-of-date firmware. Decreased performance may result.
Source: ATAPI

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
