MORE INFORMATION

IIS 5.0 provides an Operators tab on the property sheet of a Web site or an FTP site in Internet Services Manager. Administrators can can use this tab to grant limited administrative rights on specific Web sites to non-administrative users. However, the functionality of the interface is limited.

When a user or a group account on the Operators tab is specified, the requested users and the requested groups are added to the AdminACL property of the metabase for the Web or for the FTP site. The AdminACL property contains a Microsoft Windows discretionary access control list (DACL). The DACL controls access to a metabase key. The AdminACL property grants read access, restricted write access, or unrestricted write access. The interface provided on the Operators tab does not permit fine control of the specific rights that are granted to these users and these groups.

This feature has been replaced by the Metaacl.vbs file. The Metaacl.vbs file gives administrators more control over the DACL that controls access to metabase keys.

Note If you use Metaacl.vbs incorrectly, IIS may become unstable. Always back up the metabase before you use Metaacl.exe.

Note Modifying metabase ACLs to grant administrative rights to non-administrative users is not supported.

We recommend that you use the Mbexplorer.exe tool. This tool is included in the resource kit tools for IIS 6.0. To download the resource kit tools, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
