Article ID: 819584 - Last Review: February 5, 2007 - Revision: 2.6 BUG: Grayscale graphics are printed as CMYK output in Publisher 2003NoticeSYMPTOMSWhen you print a publication that contains grayscale (8-bit)
images, those images separate as cyan, magenta, yellow, black (CMYK) builds.
Therefore, instead of appearing on only the black plate, the images appear on
the cyan, magenta, and yellow plates also. This symptom occurs whether you print color separations directly from Microsoft Publisher, or print them as composite CMYK, and then use another program to separate the publication. CAUSEThis behavior occurs because Publisher treats grayscale
images as 24-bit red, green, blue (RGB) images, and then separates them
according to its built-in RGB-to-CMYK color profile. This profile separates
most grayscale images as CMYK builds. WORKAROUNDIn Publisher, recolor the image(s) to black, or to the rich
black of your choice.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a
bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to"
section.
