FIX: Visual SourceSafe checks in files that you have not selected

SYMPTOMS

A project that uses hierarchies that have multiple nodes may report that one file is associated with those nodes. When you try to check in files to source control, some files that you have not selected might be checked in.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

In Visual Studio .NET 2003, create an empty managed Visual C++ project.
Add a new form to the project. By default, the Form1.cpp file, the Form1.h file, and the Form1.resX file are added.
In Solution Explorer, right-click the project, and then click Add to Source Control.
Select the Form1.h node and the Form1.resX node. Form1.resX is a child of Form1.h.
Open the Check Out dialog box.
Click to clear the check box for the Form1.resX node, and then click OK.

Both files are checked in.
