SYMPTOMSWhen you view the properties of a printer that is configured
to use Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) and then you click Printing
Preferences, some of the printing preferences options do not appear.
The options do appear when you configure the printer connection to use a
standard remote procedure call (RPC). CAUSEThis behavior may occur if you use a Uniform Resource
Locator (URL) address to connect to a printer on your local intranet and if
that connection uses IPP. IPP connections are more limited than RPC true-connect connections because IPP connections do not support enhanced
metafile (EMF) features. The connection uses IPP if either of the following
conditions is true:
WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior, use RPC to connect to printers
on your local intranet. To configure an RPC connection, do one of the
following:
