When you print a publication with transparent texture fills in several objects, the texture fills are not always printed as transparent.

This behavior occurs only when you print to a PostScript printer. Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 uses a special dot pattern to simulate transparency when printed. This dot pattern is known as a "screen door". This screen door pattern is rendered differently on different PostScript printers. Certain transparency percentages may be rendered as solid on one PostScript printer, and on other PostScript printers the same transparency percentages may be printed with no problem.

To work around this problem, you can create the multilayered transparency effect in another program, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or Corel Draw. Save the image as an EPS graphic, and then link to the image so that it is correctly processed by the printer on output. You can also insert the EPS graphic, embedding the graphic in your publication. It is recommended that you link to the EPS file if you going to use a Professional PrePress or Printer Service.
  1. On the Link menu, point to Picture, and then click From file.
  2. Select the picture that you have created.
  3. Click the down arrow next to Insert, and then click Link to file.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
