Article ID: 822046 - Last Review: September 27, 2006 - Revision: 2.8 Solutions built for Office programs may not work with Office 2003 Beta2Note
The symptoms that are described in this article apply only to the beta version of this product. This issue does not occur in the final release of Microsoft Office 2003. SYMPTOMSWhen you try to automatically activate a Microsoft Office 2003 beta program, the Office 2003 beta program that you try to activate is not activated as expected. Instead, you may receive a runtime error message. This problem occurs when you are trying to automatically activate an Office 2003 program by one of the following solutions:
CAUSEThis issue occurs because the text in the title bar of Office 2003 Beta2 programs is different from the text in previous versions of Office. When a solution tries to activate an Office program, the argument it sends to the AppActivate method requires the name of the program as it appears in the title bar. Because the title bar is different in the Beta2 version of Office, the process does not complete successfully. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, install one of the following updated versions of Office.
Important You must perform a full install from CD-ROM. If you only update or patch your existing installation of Office 2003 Beta, the problem is not resolved. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. APPLIES TO
