When you try to edit organizational charts in Microsoft Office 2003 and Microsoft Office XP, you cannot do so.
This issue occurs when the organizational chart that you are trying to edit was created with Microsoft Office 2000 or an earlier version.
Microsoft Office 2003 and Microsoft Office XP have an integrated diagramming function that includes a new Organization Chart feature. This integrated diagramming function takes the place of the Organization Chart 2.0 program that is included with Office 2000 and earlier versions of Office.
To work around this issue, use one the following methods.

Method 1Download and install the Microsoft Organization Chart 2.0 tool.
You can use the Microsoft Organization Chart 2.0 tool to continue to view and edit your organizational charts that were created by using Office 2000 or earlier. For more information about the Microsoft Organization Chart 2.0 tool, visit the following Microsoft site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspxAfter you install the Microsoft Organization Chart 2.0 tool, new organization charts will continue to use the new diagramming features in Office 2003. Organization charts created using Office 2000 or earlier will open in the Microsoft Organization Chart 2.0 tool. To create new organization charts by using the Microsoft Organization Chart 2.0 tool, use the Insert Object command.
Method 2Re-create your existing organization charts by using the new diagramming features of Office 2003 and Microsoft XP.
This method gives you all the benefits of the Office drawing formatting capabilities and the automatic formatting and layout that are appropriate for simple organization charts.
Note By default, Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 will automatically convert Microsoft Organization Chart 2.0 objects to the new Organization Chart feature of Office XP. You can use the new diagramming features to change the converted chart.
Method 3Re-create the charts by using the Drawing tools in Office 2003 and Microsoft XP.
This method gives you all the benefits of the Office drawing formatting capabilities, but you have to manually adjust all the formatting and layout. You have to manually adjust, because you are not using the diagramming feature.
Method 4Re-create the organization charts in Microsoft Visio, and then insert the resulting charts in your Office 2003 and Office XP programs.
Use this workaround when you have to change the charts, and not just view them, or when you have to create organization charts that are more complex than the charts that the Office diagramming feature is designed for.
The layout capabilities in the earlier Microsoft Organization Chart 2.0 program and the newer integrated diagramming function in Office 2003 and Office XP are different. Therefore, some older charts cannot be represented with the new layout capabilities. Because of this, there is limited automatic conversion available in PowerPoint 2002 and no automatic conversion provided with Office 2003.
