On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you try to use Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) to modify the AdminACL property of the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) metabase from a remote computer, the operation may not be successful. CAUSEThe IIS ADSI provider always passes NULL as the first parameter of the computer name for the LookupAccountSid function and the LookupAccountName function. RESOLUTIONInternet Information Services 5.1Hotfix informationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. MORE INFORMATIONThe IIS ADSI provider resolves the account name security identifier (SID) on the computer that is running. If you try to administer a remote Web server, the local account of the remote computer is passed to the LookupAccountSid function on the administration computer. This computer name parameter is always NULL, and the IIS ADSI code always tries to resolve it locally. The operation may not be successful because the accounts may have different SIDs on different computers. Note This problem affects only remote administration through ADSI and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). The WMI provider uses ADSI provider code to deal with the AdminACL property.
