Shapes that contain text are resized when you open a Word 2000 document in Word 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you create a document with shapes that contains text in Microsoft Word 2000 and then open the document in Word 2002, the shapes are resized so that they are now extremely wide.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if all the following conditions are true:
  • In the Format AutoShape dialog box, the Word wrap text in AutoShape check box is not selected.
  • The shapes have been grouped.
  • The shape contains a manual line break (created by pressing Shift-Enter).

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

This problem is corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.
