Memory-Dump Operation Does Not Complete on Computers with More Than 6 GB of RAM InstalledArticle ID: 822998 - View products that this article applies to. On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen Windows unexpectedly stops responding (hangs) and is configured to write debugging information to the Memory.dmp file, the memory-dump operation may not complete successfully. Additionally, you may experience one or both of the following symptoms:
CAUSEThis problem may occur if you have more than 6 gigabytes (GB) of random access memory (RAM) installed in the computer. The memory-dump process stops responding in a large memory-dump operation because the ScsiPortGetPhysicalAddress() routine in the Diskdump.sys file returns a value of 0xcb000 instead of 0x1000cb000 to the miniport adapter driver. RESOLUTIONHotfix InformationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article.
