The background of a Visual Basic ActiveX control may not render correctly in a non-Visual Basic container

Article ID:823070
Last Review:October 21, 2005
Revision:1.2

SYMPTOMS

If you try to print an ActiveX control from Microsoft Excel or from a similar container, and the ActiveX control is written in Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0, the ActiveX control may not render its background correctly.

CAUSE

The characteristics and the feature set of the container of an ActiveX control determine how the ActiveX control is rendered to a printer. A coding error in the Visual Basic runtime may cause the background to be painted in the wrong location. Typically, the background appears outside the client area of the ActiveX control's window. This behavior may cause the background image to be clipped. Therefore, the background image will not print.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem does not occur for all printer drivers or for all containers because the mechanism that is used to render controls is different for each printer driver and for each container.
