When you use the Microsoft SharePoint Migration Tool (Smigrate.exe) to back up a SharePoint Team Services site in preparation to migrate it to a Windows SharePoint Services site, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
The server administration programs and the server extensions on the Web server are not compatible. The server is too old to use with this administration program. Please consult the section in the Administration Guide on Migrating and Updating Web Sites for more information
This issue occurs if the Ows1002.exe update for SharePoint Team Services is not installed on the SharePoint Team Services server.
To resolve this issue, install the Ows1002.exe update on the SharePoint Team Services server before you migrate your site to Windows SharePoint Services. To do this, follow these steps:
The Smigrate.exe tool is located in the Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\60\Bin folder on the server. Use the Smigrate.exe tool to back up SharePoint Team Services sites or Windows SharePoint Services sites, and restore these backups to other servers running Windows SharePoint Services. When you use the Smigrate.exe tool, you must perform two separate operations. First, you back up the site to a file, and then you restore the site to the new location. For more information about the Smigrate.exe tool, see the "Migrating and Upgrading Web Sites" topic in the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Administration Guide.
