Microsoft has adopted a standardized naming schema for all software updates for System Management Server that Microsoft creates and distributes. The new naming schema goes into effect in June 2003 for all update packages.
Note A System Management Server software update is an executable (.exe) file that contains one or more system files that you can apply to System Management Server to correct a specific problem. Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) distributes software updates to customers whose computers are severely affected by a specific problem. Critical and recommended updates are software updates that Microsoft recommends for all customers. To obtain critical or recommended updates, you can visit the Windows Update site, the Microsoft Download Center or other Microsoft Web sites. Microsoft has adopted this new naming schema for software update packages for the following reasons:

ProductNameThis attribute specifies the product name, including the product version. For System Management Server software updates, this attribute has one of the following values:
KBThis attribute indicates that the Microsoft Knowledge Base includes an article that is associated with the software update.ArticleNumberThis attribute specifies the ID number of the Microsoft Knowledge Base article that is associated with the software update.OptionThis optional attribute differentiates software update packages that address the same issue but are designed for different processor platforms. These options include x86 (for 32-bit processors), AMD64 (for x86-64bit AMD processors), and IA-64 (for 64-bit Intel Processors).LanguageThis attribute contains the standard language name abbreviation that represents the language for the software update package. For example, this attribute may read ENU (for English), RUS (for Russian), or JPN (for Japanese).Note The abbreviation INTL is used in cases where the software update package applies to multiple languages. In cases where the update package applies to all languages, no standard language name abbreviation is used.
