"No Disk in Drive" Message During Windows XP Setup

When you try to install or repair Windows XP, in the list of partitions where you can install Windows, you may see the following message:

This behavior may occur if either of the following conditions is true:

• You have a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controller card or a small computer system interface (SCSI) controller card installed in your computer.
  
  -or-
• You have an Iomega Corporation Zip drive installed or plugged in to your computer.

To resolve this problem, follow these steps as appropriate for your situation.

RAID or SCSI Controller Card

If you have a RAID or SCSI controller card installed in your computer, follow these steps:

1. Contact the manufacturer of your controller card and obtain the latest Windows XP driver for your card.
2. Create an installation disk for the controller card drivers on a 3.5-inch disk.
3. Start Windows XP Setup.
4. You receive the following message:
   Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver
   When you receive this message, press the F6 key, and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen to install the third-party drivers for your controller card.

Zip Drive

If you have a zip drive installed or plugged in to the computer, follow these steps:

1. Unplug the zip drive, or remove it from your computer.
2. Start Windows XP Setup.
