Rise of Nations Error Message: Runtime Error! ... Abnormal Program Termination

SYMPTOMS

When you play Microsoft Rise of Nations and you try to start the Conquer the World Campaign, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program....Program files\Microsoft Games\Rise Of Nations\Nations.exe Abnormal program termination

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the most recent Rise of Nations Update. To obtain the most recent update, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Click Check for Updates

1.Start Rise of Nations.
2.On the Main menu, click Check for Updates.
3.Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to update Rise of Nations.
Note If you do not have a Check for Updates button, use Method 2.

Method 2: Check Downloads

Visit the following Downloads page for Rise of Nations, locate the Game Updates section, and then download and install the latest game update. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the color bit depth of your display:
Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Printers and Other Hardware.
3.In the See Also section, click Display.
4.On the Settings tab, change the Color quality to Highest (32 bit), and then click OK.
5.Start Rise of Nations.
6.Click Options and Profiles.
7.On the Graphics tab, change the Resolution to a 32-bit setting. For example, change the Resolution to 1024 x 768 x 32.
8.Click Change to Resolution.
9.Click OK.
Note If this procedure does not resolve the problem, try setting the game to a 16-bit setting (for example, change the Resolution to 1024 x 768 x 16).
