SYMPTOMS

When you use the procedure that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article to modify the behavior of Microsoft Access on a Windows Server 2003-based server that has Terminal Server enabled, Access does not start:

Specifically, this problem occurs when you modify the Terminal server registry so that Access returns the user name instead of the computer name.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix Information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

The problem that is described in the “Symptoms” section of this article occurs when you use the following procedure to modify the registry so that Access returns the user name instead of the computer name:
  1. Start Registry Editor.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\Compatibility\Applications\MSACCESS
  3. Double-click the
    Flags
    DWORD value.
  4. In the Data value box, type 81c, and then click OK.

    The value 81c hexadecimal (2076) is calculated by adding 80c hexadecimal (2060) (the Access default value) plus 0x00000010 (16) (the value that returns the user name instead of the computer name).
  5. Quit Registry Editor.
