FIX: Controls Lose the Caption in the Dialog Editor

SYMPTOMS

When you add a control to a dialog in the Visual C++ resource editor and then you change the tab order, you lose the caption of the focus control. You cannot make the caption reappear.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

Open the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 IDE.
Create a default Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) dialog-based project.
Open the IDD_*_DIALOG dialog in the resource editor.
Add a static control to the dialog.
Change the caption of the static control by setting focus to the control and then by typing the following new text: Test. When you type the existing caption, the word "static" disappears, and then the text that you type appears as the caption. Note Do not change the caption in the Properties Window.
Now set focus to another control. For example, click OK to set the focus to the OK button.
Press CTRL+D to order the tabs. You can also set the order of the tabs when you click Format, and then click Tab Order.
Change the tab order to any order that is different from the current setting.
Press ESC to quit tab-ordering mode.
The OK button caption disappears. You cannot make the caption reappear unless you retype it.
