Symptoms

When information is replicated from a Microsoft Windows 2000-based domain controller to a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based domain controller, the replication process is not completed successfully. Additionally, an Error event that is similar to the following may be logged on the Windows Server 2003-based domain controller:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: NTDS Replication
Event Category: Replication
Event ID: 1791
Date: 7/18/2003
Time: 3:52:42 PM
User: UserName
Computer: ServerName
Description: Replication of Naming Context DC=OrganizationUnitName,DC=DomainName,DC=com from source 17776332-6fe0-460c-b7f6-5cdfc49e6de7 has been aborted. Replication requires consistent schema but last attempt to sync the schema had failed. It is crucial that schema replication functions properly. See previous errors for more diagnostics. If this issue persists, please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for assistance.

Error 8418: The replication operation failed because of a schema mismatch between the servers involved.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://support.microsoft.com.

Additionally, if you increase the logging level for internal processing to 4 in Windows Server 2003, a warning message that is similar to the following may be logged in the event log on the Windows Server 2003-based computer:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: NTDS Replication
Event Category: Internal Processing
Event ID: 1481
Date: 7/18/2003
Time: 3:52:42 PM
User: UserName
Computer: ServerName
Description: Error value:
1 0000207E: AtrErr: DSID-03151030, #1:
0: 0000207E: DSID-03151030, problem 1006 (ATT_OR_VALUE_EXISTS), data 0, Att 150019 (dc)
