Article ID:825086

SUMMARY

This article describes how to designate a folder on the host PC as a shared folder on a guest PC. When you share a folder in Virtual PC, a guest PC can access the host PC folder or volume as if the folder or volume were a guest PC drive.

MORE INFORMATION

There is no set limit to the number of shared folders that you can have on a guest PC. A guest PC can have as many shared folders as the number of drive letters that are available. You can also share the same host PC folder with multiple guest PCs that are running at the same time. To designate a folder on the host PC as a shared folder on a guest PC, follow these steps.

Note To set up shared folders on a guest PC, you must install the Virtual Machine Additions. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

1.Click the guest PC, and then click Settings.
2.In the PC Setting area, click Shared Folders, and then click Share Folder.
3.In the Browse for folder dialog box, click the host PC folder that you want to share. If you want to share the folder every time that this guest PC starts, click to select the Share every time check box.
4.In the Drive letter box, type or select a drive letter to be used, and then click OK.

The host PC folder now appears on the guest PC as the shared drive letter that you selected.
Note You can also share a host PC folder by dragging it to the Folder icon on the Virtual PC toolbar of the guest PC.
