Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 does not support forms-based authenticationArticle ID: 825214 - View products that this article applies to. SUMMARYMicrosoft
Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 does
not support forms-based authentication. You cannot implement forms-based
authentication for Windows SharePoint Services 2.0
Web sites. Forms-based authentication was not implemented in Windows SharePoint Services 2.0. Attempts to use forms-based authentication will result in many problems. For example, a common problem is that search crawling will fail in Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following error message: The address could not be found,
(0x80041204 - An unrecognized HTTP status was received. Check that the address
can be accessed using Internet Explorer. ) In order to address this common feature request, support for forms-based authentication is provided in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. MORE INFORMATIONForms-based authentication is a type of ASP.NET-based
authentication in which an unauthenticated user is redirected to an HTML form.
When the user provides his or her credentials on the form, a cookie that
contains a ticket is issued to the user. On subsequent logon requests, the
system first checks the cookie to determine whether the user was already
authenticated. For more information about Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://technet.microsoft.com/windowsserver/sharepoint/bb267377.aspx
