Article ID: 825215 - Last Review: April 25, 2007 - Revision: 2.2 Custom list templates do not appear on the "Create Page" page of a SharePoint siteSYMPTOMSWhen you create a custom list template in a site and you add
the list template to the template gallery of another site, you may find that
the list template does not appear on the "Create Page" page of that site. As a
result, you cannot use the custom template to create a new list on that
list. CAUSEThis issue may occur if you create the custom list template
in a site that has a different site definition ID than the site that you added
the template to. For example, this issue may occur if any one of the following
conditions is true:
WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, create the list template in the
Windows SharePoint Services site or in the portal site where the list template
will be used. For example, if Windows SharePoint Services sites that are based
on the Team Site template require a survey template, create the survey template
in a site that is based on the Team Site template. MORE INFORMATIONWhen you create a list, you can select a list template from
the set of list templates on the server and on the site collection. This set of
list templates is filtered according to the site language and the site
definition ID that your Windows SharePoint Services site is based on. For
example, a site that is based on the Meeting Workspace template has a site
definition ID that is different from a site that is based on the Team Site
template. If you create a Meeting Announcements custom list template from the
Announcements list in a site that is based on a Meeting Workspace template, the
Meeting Announcements list template that you create is not available on a site
that is based on the Team Site template. For more information about working with templates in Windows SharePoint Services, see the "Working with Templates" topic in the "Managing Sites" section of the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Administration Guide. The Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Administration Guide (Administrator's Help.chm) is located in the Docs folder in the root folder of the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 CD.
