The display name may contain a backslash character (\) instead of a DBCS character when an e-mail message is sent from an Exchange 2000 Server userArticle ID: 826255 - View products that this article applies to. SYMPTOMSIn the following scenario, the display name of the sender of an e-mail message may contain a backslash character (\) instead of a double-byte character set (DBCS) character:
CAUSEThis problem occurs because Exchange 2000 inserts quotation marks around a DBCS character in a message header. The standard Request for Comments (RFC) 2047 also encodes the message header. However, the display name is not always RFC 2047-encoded. When a display name is not RFC 2047-encoded and the display name contains quotation marks, the quotation marks are not removed when the message is converted to MIME encoding, and a backslash character (\) is inserted. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix. Note If additional issues occur or if any troubleshooting is required, you might have to create a separate service request. If you do not see your language, it is because a hotfix is not available for that language.
