Virtual PC 5.0

To create a virtual machine in Virtual PC 5.0:
  1. Start Virtual PC.
  2. In the Virtual PC List, click New.
  3. Type a name in the PC Setup Assistant, and then click the right arrow.
  4. In Configuration Options, click Guide me, and then click the right arrow.
  5. Select the appropriate operating system from the list of operating systems, and then click the right arrow.
  6. Click No, and then click the right arrow.

    You do not have to adjust the memory allocation of the new virtual machine at this point.
  7. In Primary Drive Options, click Create a new drive image, and then click the right arrow.
  8. Select a location for the new disk image.

    If you select a new location, find the location, click Select, and then click the right arrow.
  9. Click Create Drive, and then click the right arrow.
  10. At Modem Settings, click the right arrow.
  11. At Palmtop Device Settings, click the right arrow.
  12. Click Done.
  13. In the Virtual PC List, select the new PC that you just created, and then click Settings.
  14. If the operating system will connect to a network or act as a server to other systems, in the Networking section, select Virtual Switch, and then click OK.

Virtual PC 6.0

To create a virtual machine in Virtual PC 6.0:
  1. Start Virtual PC.
  2. On the Window menu, click Virtual PC List, and then click New.
  3. Click Create a PC manually, and then click the right arrow.
  4. Click Install an operating system onto an empty PC, and then click the right arrow.
  5. Select the operating system that you want to install on the virtual machine, and then click the right arrow.
  6. Select the memory setting for the new virtual machine, and then click the right arrow.
  7. Specify whether the Undo Drives option is enabled for the virtual machine, and then click the right arrow.
  8. Type a name for the new virtual machine.
  9. If you want to change the location of the new virtual machine, click Change Location, select a location for the configuration document, and then click the right arrow.
  10. Review the specifications for the new virtual machine, and then click Create.
