SUMMARY

This article describes how to embed fonts in a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 or a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 presentation.

When you create a presentation in PowerPoint on a computer that uses one set of fonts, those fonts may not look the same when you open the same presentation on another computer that has different fonts installed. You may be able to solve this behavior by saving (or embedding) your fonts in the presentation.

PowerPoint supports the embedding of fonts that do not have license restrictions that prevent embedding. When you open a presentation that has embedded fonts in PowerPoint on a computer that is different from the computer where the presentation was saved, the behavior of the embedded fonts depends on the embedding license level of the fonts.

The following information describes the restrictions that affect the behavior of embedded fonts when a presentation is opened up in PowerPoint 2003:

If the presentation contains any fonts that are restricted to either the Print or the Preview views, you cannot edit the presentation.
If the presentation contains embedded fonts that are licensed as installable, the font may be permanently installed for use in other presentations and programs.
If the presentation contains embedded fonts that are licensed as editable, the font is temporarily available for use in other presentations and programs while the presentation that contains the embedded font is open.

PowerPoint supports the embedding of TrueType fonts when you save them in the following formats:

Microsoft Presentation
Microsoft PowerPoint 95 Presentation, Microsoft PowerPoint 97, Microsoft PowerPoint 98, Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, Microsoft PowerPoint 2002, PowerPoint 2003 and PowerPoint 2007.

How to embed TrueType fonts in a presentation

To save your presentation so that the fonts display and print correctly when you open the presentation, follow these steps.

Note If you save a presentation with embedded fonts, this increases the file size of your presentation. When True Type fonts that are licensed as installable are embedded in a PowerPoint template, the template can be applied to a presentation only if the embedded True Type fonts are installed on the local computer.

PowerPoint 2003 or earlier versions of PowerPoint

Start PowerPoint, and then open the presentation that you want.
On the File menu, click Save As.
On the Tools menu in the Save As dialog box, click Save Options.
Click to select the Embed TrueType fonts check box, and then click OK.

PowerPoint 2007

Start PowerPoint 2007, and then open the presentation that you want.

On the Tools menu in the Save As dialog box, click Save Options.
Click to select the Embed fonts in the file check box, and then click OK.

Note You can embed any TrueType font that is included with Microsoft Windows. Other TrueType fonts can be embedded if they do not have license restrictions. If you cannot embed a font (for example, if the font is not marked as being editable, installable, or for print and preview), you receive a message that states that the font cannot be embedded because of license restrictions.
