Symptoms

When you upgrade to Microsoft Office Word 2003, and Adobe Acrobat is installed on your computer, you may experience any of the following symptoms:

  • The Create a PDF File and the Configure PDF Options buttons are missing from the toolbar.

  • If the Create a PDF File and the Configure PDF Options buttons appear on the toolbar, nothing happens when you click them.

  • When you start Word, you receive one of the following error messages:

    The macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your Macro security settings.


    -or-

    Adobe PDF Monitor cannot be found, please re-install Create Adobe PDF.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Acrobat. If you installed Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5 or later before you installed Microsoft Office, remove and then reinstall Acrobat.

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/ If you have installed Adobe Acrobat 5.0 or later, and the buttons are still not available on the Word toolbar, make sure that PDFMaker is listed on the Toolbars menu. To add Acrobat to the toolbar follow these steps:

  1. In Word, click View, and then click Toolbars.

  2. If PDFMaker 5.0 is listed, make sure that it is selected.

  3. If PDFMaker 5.0 is not listed, click Tools, and then click Templates & Add-ins.

  4. If PDFMaker.dot is listed, make sure that it is selected, and then click OK.

  5. If PDFMaker.dot is not listed, follow these steps:

    1. Click Add.

    2. Locate the following folder:

      Program Files/Adobe/Acrobat 5.x/PDFMaker

    3. Click PDFMaker.dot, and then click OK.

    4. Click OK to close the Templates & Add-ins dialog box.

  6. Click View, click Toolbars, and then make sure that PDFMaker 5.0 is selected.
