Multiprocessor Windows NT computer stops responding

SYMPTOMS

When you run a program on a multiprocessor Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 computer, the computer may stop responding, or you may receive an access violation error message.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when your computer is sharing more than 25 printers and you have applied Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a and the following hotfix:
261317 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/261317/) Deadlock in Ntdll.dll causes program to hang

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
