You receive an error message when you try to install an XML expansion pack in Office Word 2003 or Office Excel 2003

SYMPTOMS

If you have a Multilanguage User Interface (MUI) for an Asian language (such as Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, Japanese, or Korean) on your computer, the following behavior may occur. If you try to add an XML expansion pack, you receive the following error message:
The XML expansion pack or the Smart Document program is missing or invalid.
This issue occurs only with English language versions of Microsoft Office.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if you use double-byte characters, such as Asian language characters, in the smart document manifest namespace.

Do not use double-byte characters in the smart document manifest namespace.
