Text and handwriting changes to a drawing in OneNote 2007 or in OneNote 2003

Expand all | Collapse all

SYMPTOMS

When you work in Microsoft Office OneNote 2007 or Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 on your Tablet PC, text and handwriting that you write changes to a drawing and you cannot make changes to the text.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if OneNote is in the Create Drawings Only mode. When you select the Create Drawings Only mode (point to Pen Mode on the Tools menu), OneNote does not turn off the Create Drawings Only mode when you restart OneNote. As a result, if you forget to turn off the Create Drawings Only mode when you are finished with the feature, any text or handwriting that you write will be converted to a drawing.

RESOLUTION

As of October 2003, there is no resolution or workaround to convert the drawing that is created with the Create Drawings Only mode back to text. You must re-create the text or handwriting if you want to be able to edit the text.

To prevent future occurrences of this problem, remember to turn off the Create Drawings Only mode when you are finished with the feature. To do this, on the Tools menu, point to Pen Mode, and then click Create Both Handwriting and Drawings.
