Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry SYMPTOMSWhen you upgrade from Microsoft Windows XP to Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later, you may receive the following error message: Access Denied CAUSEThis problem may occur if the user does not have full control permissions to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. To resolve this problem, give the Administrators group Full Control permissions to the Auto Update registry key. To do so, follow these steps:
