SYMPTOMS

You may notice a memory leak in the Lsass.exe file when you use the System Monitor tool in Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. Also, the domain controller on your computer may experience an "NTDS Intersite Messaging" error with event ID 1168 and Internal ID 302022c. The domain controller may not respond to logon requests and user authentication.

Additionally, you may experience the following symptoms if you applied an earlier version of the hotfix that is described in this article:
  • You may not be able to gain access to your local Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) database by using the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) plug-in when your computer is running on a domain controller.
  • You may not be able to perform a remote procedure call (RPC) bind with another computer unless that computer has the same updated version of the hotfix applied.

CAUSE

The problems that occur if you applied an earlier version of the hotfix are caused by a regression. To resolve these problems, apply the updated hotfix that is described in this article.
